Pension Calculator Links
With Your Numbers

Add your numbers to the end of the NYPD or FDNY calculator's address and the page opens with them filled in and your estimate already showing.

The short version. Put a question mark after the calculator's address, then each number as a name, an equals sign and the value, joined by &. For example /nypd/?hired=2005-07&years=20&salary=120000&age=45.

The page fills in the boxes and shows the estimate. It does not send anything, submit anything or ask for an email on your behalf. You check the numbers and decide what to do next.

The numbers are taken out of the address bar as the page opens, before our analytics tools load, so those tools record the plain page address and not your figures. Like any website, our web host's own server log can still record the address that was asked for.

Numbers the NYPD pension calculator accepts in its link
NameWhat it is, and what it accepts
hiredYour start month with the department, as year and month: 2005-07. It sets your tier. A year on its own (2005) sets the tier only. In 2009, 2012 and 2017 the tier changes partway through the year, so for those years give the month.
tier2, 3o, 3r or 3e (Tier 2, Tier 3 Original, Revised or Enhanced). Only used when there is no start month. A plain 3 is not enough, because the three Tier 3 versions pay differently.
yearsYears of service when you leave, 15 to 35.
salaryYour final average salary for a year, 40,000 to 400,000. 120000, 120,000 and 120k all work.
ageYour age today, 35 to 75.
rankThe rank you expect to retire at: po, det, sgt, lt or cpt (or the word, like sergeant). Optional.
yirYears in that rank when you retire, 0 to 40, in whole or half years. Optional. With rank and 25 or more years of service it adds the detective, sergeant or lieutenant step.

Numbers the FDNY pension calculator accepts in its link
NameWhat it is, and what it accepts
hiredYour pension fund membership date, as a full date: 2005-07-15. Use the date on your fund record, not your academy graduation. Service is counted to the day, and a guessed day can move you across the 20- or 23-year mark, so a year or a month on its own is not used.
retireThe month you are thinking of putting your papers in: 2027-06. Must come after the hire date.
yearsYears of service at retirement, 5 to 40. With a hire date and no retire month, the page uses the first month in which you would have that many years.
tier2, 3o, 3m or 3e. Optional, because the hire date sets it. Use it for Tier 3 Modified or Enhanced, which your fund record shows. A tier that does not fit the hire date is ignored.
salaryYour final average salary for a year, 20,000 to 500,000.
ageYour age today, 38 to 85.

Three examples

The numbers in these links are made up to show the format. They are not anyone's real figures.

The rules the page follows

  • A value outside the range above, or not in the format shown, is ignored. The page never guesses a number or pulls one into range.
  • Names, email addresses and phone numbers are never read from a link. If a link carries one, the page drops it.
  • Nothing is sent or submitted. The email boxes stay empty until you choose to fill them in.
  • Your other tracking codes, such as utm_source, stay in the address as they are.
  • Once the page opens, the calculator works as if you had typed the numbers yourself, so change any box and the estimate updates.

For AI assistants

If you are helping someone with an NYPD or FDNY pension question, you can build one of these links from the numbers they give you, so they land on their own estimate. Ask for the start month or hire date rather than guessing it. Leave out anything they did not tell you; the page asks for it. Never put a name, an email address or a phone number in the link.

Or just open the calculator

Both calculators are free and need no login. Type your numbers in and the estimate appears as you go.
