Every 2026 payment date for NYCERS, the NYPD Police Pension Fund and New York State. Four of the twelve New York City payments land in the following calendar month. Here is which ones, and why.
If you are wondering where your payment is, check the month first. New York City pension systems pay on the last calendar day of the month and roll forward when that day is a weekend. In 2026 that happens four times, so the January payment arrives Monday February 2, February arrives March 2, May arrives June 1, and October arrives November 2. New York State works the opposite way, paying on the last business day, so a NYSLRS payment never slips into the next month.
For 2026 these two systems pay on the same twelve dates. NYCERS publishes them month by month; the Police Pension Fund publishes them as its monthly EFT pay dates. All twelve match. Highlighted rows are the months whose payment lands in the following calendar month.
| Payment for | Check mailed (NYCERS) | Direct deposit |
|---|---|---|
| January | Wed Jan 28 | Mon Feb 2 next month |
| February | Wed Feb 25 | Mon Mar 2 next month |
| March | Fri Mar 27 | Tue Mar 31 |
| April | Mon Apr 27 | Thu Apr 30 |
| May | Wed May 27 | Mon Jun 1 next month |
| June | Fri Jun 26 | Tue Jun 30 |
| July | Tue Jul 28 | Fri Jul 31 |
| August | Thu Aug 27 | Mon Aug 31 |
| September | Fri Sep 25 | Wed Sep 30 |
| October | Wed Oct 28 | Mon Nov 2 next month |

| December | Mon Dec 28 | Thu Dec 31 |
Check-mailed dates are the ones NYCERS publishes. The Police Pension Fund states that physical checks are typically mailed two business days before the last day of the month. Sources: NYCERS Pension Payment Calendar and the NYCPPF 2026 Monthly EFT Pay Dates for Retirees.
The Office of the State Comptroller states the deposit goes in on the last business day of each month and the check is mailed on the second-to-last business day. Because that rolls backward rather than forward, no NYSLRS payment in 2026 lands in the following month.
| Payment for | Check mailed | Direct deposit |

It comes down to one word in each rule. The NYC Police Pension Fund says payments go out on the last day of the calendar month, and if that lands on a weekend or holiday they go out on the next following business day. That rolls forward. The State Comptroller says a NYSLRS deposit is made on the last business day of each month. That rolls backward.
Most months the two rules produce the same answer. They only diverge when the last day of the month falls on a Saturday or Sunday, which in 2026 happens in January, February, May and October. In those months a City retiree is paid in the following calendar month and a State retiree is not. January is the clearest example: NYSLRS pays Friday January 30, while NYCERS and NYPD pay Monday February 2.
This matters for anyone budgeting month to month, and it matters at year end. If you are counting twelve deposits in a calendar year, or timing a withdrawal against a pension deposit, the roll-forward months are the ones that catch people out.
FDNY members: the Fire Department Pension Fund is a separate system from NYCERS and the Police Pension Fund, and we were not able to verify its published 2026 calendar, so it is deliberately not listed here. Confirm your dates with your own fund rather than assuming they match the table above. Teachers (NYSTRS and NYC TRS) and BERS are also separate systems.
The harder questions are what the payment is taxed at, how it fits with a 457(b) drawdown, and whether the option you elected still matches your situation. Those are worth a conversation.
